Delhi Metro BIG UPDATE: All gates of THESE metro stations closed due to security reasons; DETAILS here

New Delhi:

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed all three metro station gates on Friday, citing security concerns. ‘All gates of ITO Metro Station are closed, while two gates of Dhansa Bus Stand Metro Station are closed,’ DMRC said in a tweet. In addition, all gates at the Delhi Gate and Jama Masjid Metro stations are closed. However, DMRC did not specify the nature of the security issue that caused the gates to be closed.

Several students along with members of the All India Students’ Union (AISA) protested against the central government’s ‘Agnipath’ scheme for recruitment into the armed forces and demanded its withdrawal.

The students held placards, chanted anti-government slogans, and sat between the old Delhi Police Headquarters and Gate No. 5 of the ITO Delhi Metro station.

The Union Cabinet had earlier approved the ‘Agnipath’ recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the armed forces on Thursday. The young people chosen for this programme will be known as ‘Agniveer.’ This year, approximately 46,000 will be recruited.

The government has described the plan as a historic and transformative measure, but it has resulted in unprecedented levels of agitation and protests in several Indian states.
