A Zomato delivery guy was allegedly beaten and thrashed brutally by a customer here who refused to accept order after knowing the caste of the former.
The customer spat on his face and made casteist comments on the delivery guy calling him ‘untouchable’.
The victim named Vineet Kumar has filed a FIR against the customer for assaulting and abusing him because of his caste. He further said the customer had called nearly a dozen of people to beat the delivery guy.
“On getting to know that I belonged to a Scheduled Caste, he used casteist remarks, saying he will not take the order from the hands of an untouchable. I told him to place order cancellation if he did not want to accept the order,” news agency IANS quoted Kumar.
“They also took my motorcycle. I dialed the police control room, and a team reached the spot. The police helped me in getting back my motorcycle,” he added.
Additional Commissioner of Police, East Zone, Qasim Abidi, informed that the probe has been initiated and the case has been registered under the SC and ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, and other sections.
