CAA officers arrest 15 traders in Kegalle

The Kegalle Consumer Affairs Authority arrested 15 traders who sold rice at a price higher than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) and 10 others who failed to exhibit the prices of rice. Kegalle Consumer Affairs Authority District Manager A.M.J.S. Athapattu said that legal action has been taken against the suspects.

He said that in another raid in the Warakapola area, officials had found traders concealing 75 sacks of rice in 10 kg and 5 kg packs. CAA officials made the traders provide them to the customers at the MRP.

Athapattu added that small groups of CAA officials are deployed to small towns in the divisional secretary areas in the district. He added that although it is the large-scale traders who have a tendency to conceal their rice stocks, they would check both small-scale and large-scale traders.
