Afghanistan Earthquake: Death Toll reaches 950, hundreds injured; See pictures here

Following the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan in a statement released by the Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhunzada has urged the international community to help with the aftermath of last night’s earthquake in Afghanistan.

Taliban officials now say the overnight earthquake in Afghanistan has killed 950 people and injured hundreds more.

The death toll of the people affected due to the earthquake is constantly rising. There is a redundant health infrastructure in the nation which is not proving to be of any help in this time distress when the country is under the veil of a natural calamity.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said on June 22 that an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan in the early hours of the day.

“The death toll is likely to rise as some of the villages are in remote areas in the mountains and it will take some time to collect details,” Afghan interior ministry official Salahuddin Ayubi was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said the tremors were felt over a distance of about 500 km by about 119 million people in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India.
