Weather Update: Rain, thunderstorms bring relief from extreme heat in Delhi-NCR

The weather has changed in Delhi-NCR today. There were heavy rain and thunderstorms early in the morning in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and light drizzle in some areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar rains are going to continue in Delhi-NCR for a few hours now. 

Its effect is more visible in Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Noida and Gurugram. Along with this, trees have been uprooted in many areas amidst strong winds and dangerous storms.

However, due to rain and storm, people in Delhi-NCR have got relief from the scorching heat. Due to the effect of strong winds, trees were uprooted in some areas of the national capital, blocking roads.

Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport were also affected due to bad weather. The airport authorities have requested passengers to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.

Delhi airport tweeted, “Flight operations at Delhi airport have been affected due to bad weather. Passengers are requested to contact the concerned airline for updated flight details.”

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain with strong winds for the next two hours. 

“Light to moderate rain and gusty winds with speed reaching 50-80 kmph very likely over Delhi-NCR & adjoining areas during next 2 hours,” the IMD tweeted.

Alerting people, the IMD said vulnerable structures, kutcha houses, impact on traffic and visibility are expected and suggested people to stay indoors as well as avoid traveling if possible.

Earlier on Saturday, rain lashed parts of the national capital, resulting in the minimum temperature dipping to 23.1 degrees Celsius, three notches below the average.
