Union Power Minister slams Delhi govt, alleges willful misinformation

New Delhi:

Union Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh has expressed displeasure at Delhi Government for allegedly misleading the public with incorrect information about the power situation in Delhi.

In reply to the Delhi Power Minister’s letter expressing concerns about coal stock position of some NTPC stations supplying power to NCT of Delhi, Union Power Minister in his letter today has stated the correct figure of stocks highlighting that the figure in the Delhi minister’s letter was incorrect.

The Union Minister further said that all the above thermal power stations are having sufficient reserve coal stocks for 5-8 days. He adds that the stocks are replenished on a daily basis- both from domestic sources and coal imported for blending purposes. He further says that NTPC has been declaring 100% availability from Dadri and Unchahar power stations.

Raj Kumar Singh alleged that panic was sought to be created by using wrong figures and this was reprehensible.  He further claimed that in October 2021, panic was sought to be created amongst the people about th disruption of power supplies on the basis that the gas supply to Delhi’s gas-based plant was likely to be disrupted which proved to be baseless.

The minister stressed that an advance gas supply arrangement had not been made by the Delhi government and that the power department of the Delhi Government is expected to monitor these things and take care that gas supplies/power supplies etc. are paid for and contracts tied up in time. He added that this was not done earlier.

Raj Kumar Singhfurther stressed that in 2015, Delhi Government had surrendered some power capacity that had been allotted to Delhi from the central pool. He added that as per the procedure, this was offered to all states in the succeeding years (in 2017, 2018, 2019 etc.) and a number of allocations were made and the Delhi government did not object.

He further said that in 2021, the Delhi government suddenly claimed that they had not surrendered the power which was wrong. He added that the Ministry of Power has in its possession the Delhi Government letter surrendering power and that the Delhi government had also surrendered 756 MW from Dadri-I claiming they had surplus power.

The Union Power Minister has reiterated that creating panic on the basis of wrong figures or wrong facts is reprehensible.
