Travel ban on Cabraal further extended

The overseas travel ban imposed on former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal, was extended till July 25 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday.

President’s Counsel Maithri Gunarathne appearing on behalf of the complainant pleaded to issue an order directing the Governor of the Central Bank and secretary to the treasury to submit a detail report pertaining to the list of parties that were paid with respect to the International Sovereign Bond settlement on 18th of January 2022.

Accordingly, the Magistrate directed the Central Bank Governor and secretary to the Treasury to submit a report regarding the international sovereign bond settlements before the court on the next calling date.

The complaint had been lodged by former Southern Province Governor Ranjith Keerthi Tennakoon.

President’s Counsel Shavendra Fernando appearing on behalf of Ajith Nivard Cabral said that his client would be appear before the court on next hearing date.

The complaint had been lodged against Cabraal for allegedly abusing public funds during his tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank.
