SDIG Deshabandu summoned to HRCSL today

Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon has been summoned before the Human Rights Commission today (13) in connection with the recent unrest at the Galle Face Green.

The head of the National Intelligence Service, Major General Suresh Salley was summoned to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) yesterday (12) over the countrywide violence following the Galle Face incident and the failure on the part of law enforcement authorities to enforce the law.

The Commissioner General of Prisons and another prison official were also summoned to the Human Rights Commission yesterday.

They had been summoned to inquire into allegations that a group of inmates at the Watareka Prison were used to attack protesters on Monday (9).

The Chairperson of the HRCSL said that the decision was taken based on the submissions made by the IGP and the Army Commander before the Human Rights Commission the day before yesterday. The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) said yesterday that it observed deficiencies on the part of the country’s authorities when dealing with the recent unrest.
