Rajya Sabha to witness election on 57 seats on June 10

New Delhi: 

The Election Commission of India announced that the electoral process for the selection of candidates on 57 Rajya Sabha seats spread across 15 states will take place on June 10.

The electoral process will see the maximum number of seats coming from Uttar Pradesh where candidates will compete for seats from 11 regions. The expected seat share is seven seats for BJP, which rules the Centre as well as the state. 

The remaining seats will go to Samajwadi Party. The Bahujan Samajwadi Party is likely to have just one member in the Rajya Sabha following the retirement of Satish Chandra Mishra.

There are a number of members who are retiring but will be returning to Rajya Sabha, including Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman (elected from Karnataka), Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi (elected from Jharkhand), and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal (elected from Maharashtra). Parliamentary leader of YSRCP Vijay Sai will be re-elected as well. 

YS Chaudhary and TG Venkatesh who had earlier left TDP to join BJP are going to retire as well on June 21. The four seats that will be vacant are likely to go to YSRCP.

Other prominent members like P Chidambaram, Praful Patel and Shiv Sena parliamentary leader Sanjay Raut will also be retiring on July 4. Out of 6 seats in Maharashtra, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is likely to win 4 seats. Two seats are likely to be given to Shiv Sena and one each to the NCP and the Congress party.

Between the months of April and August, 77 MPs will be retiring from the Rajya Sabha. Out of 245 seats in the Rajya Sabha, the BJP has 95 seats followed by Congress with 29 seats.
