Rahul Gandhi slams BJP for fuel hikes, says "2 cylinders then for the price of 1 now!"

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Sunday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over rising fuel prices. While comparing the current prices of fuels with that of during Congress’ tenure, he said only his party governs for the welfare of poor and middle class families.

Gandhi tweeted, “Only Congress governs for the welfare of poor and middle class Indian families. It’s the core of our economic policy.”

Gandhi’s remarks came after LPG prices were increased by Rs 50 per cylinder on Saturday. In the national capital, the prices for the non-subsidised LPG have been raised up to Rs 999.50 per 14.2-kg cylinder from now. 

Earlier, the LPG prices in Delhi was Rs 949.50. 

Gandhi pointed out that people could buy two cylinders on current prices during the tenure of Congress. He also claimed that Congress used to give subsidy of Rs 827 per cylinder while the people have to pay Rs 410 for the cylinder. He further said the BJP-led Centre gives subsidy of Rs 0 while the people have to buy cylinders on Rs 999. 

He wrote, “2 cylinders then for the price of 1 now!”
