Punjab on high alert after rocket-propelled grenade hits police headquarters in Mohali

Chandigarh:

An explosion took place at the intelligence headquarters of the Punjab Police in Mohali, Punjab on Monday evening. According to reports, a small explosion occurred after a rocket-propelled grenade hit the building.

The Punjab Police has issued a statement in this regard saying, “At around 7:45 pm, a minor explosion was reported at the Punjab Police Intelligence Head Quarter in Sector 77, SAS Nagar. But no damage is reported. Senior officials are on the spot and investigation is underway. Forensic teams have been called.”

He said that no casualty has been reported so far. Police have cordoned off the area. Top officials of Punjab Police reached the spot.

According to news agency ANI, when the police were asked whether it could be considered a terrorist attack? Mohali SP (headquarters) Ravinder Pal Singh replied, “It cannot be ignored. We are probing it.”

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh tweeted on this incident. 

“Shocked to hear about the blast at Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali. Thankfully no one got hurt. This shameless attack on our police force is very worrying and I urge Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to bring the culprits to justice at the earliest,” he tweeted.
