Chandigarh:
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday stayed the arrest of former AAP leader and poet Kumar Vishwas in connection with a statement made against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal just before the Punjab Assembly elections.
Soon after the AAP won a landslide victory in the Punjab elections, a case was filed against him for allegedly making anti-Kejriwal statements.
Vishwas had taken to social media to explain how a team from the Punjab Police had arrived at his home in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Just before the assembly elections, Vishwas accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of making a covert alliance with Khalistani groups. “The Punjab Police have arrived at my place this morning,” he said in response to a visit by a team from the Punjab Police. I’m issuing a warning to Bhagwant Mann, whom I was in charge of getting into the (AAP) party. You’re letting a man in Delhi to play with the power that the people of Punjab have given you. In the future, he (Arvind Kejriwal) will betray you and Punjab. Just keep in mind what I said.”
The Narendra Modi government then granted Vishwas a ‘Y’ category security cover.
