Punjab: Court questions AAP govt over Sidhu Moose Wala's security cover

Sidhu Moose Wala Murder:

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government why the security of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was downgraded and from where the information was leaked.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has now asked the government to respond by June 2.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu (popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala) was among 424 people whose security was reduced by the Punjab Police, leading to his shocking murder the very next day in Punjab’s Mansa district.

The AAP government faced heavy criticism from the opposition for a poster shared on the party’s Twitter handle announcing the security downgrade with the caption mentioning Sidhu Moose Wala and Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh , “Another Attack on VVIP Culture in Punjab”.

Director-General of Punjab Police VK Bhavra said the murder of famous singer Sidhu Moose Wala was the result of an inter-gang rivalry and that Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldie Brar gangs were involved.

He further said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would be formed to probe the matter. In a media statement, the state police chief said Sidhu Moose Wala’s security cover had been lowered for deployment during the anniversary of Operation Blue Star next month.

Meanwhile, Punjab Police has registered an FIR at Mansa police station against unidentified persons under sections 302, 307 and 341 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, in City-1.

Canadia-based gangster Goldie Brar claimed responsibility for Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder in a Facebook post on Sunday evening. Goldie Brar is a close associate of gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, who is said to be involved in the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala.

Sidhu Moose Wala had contested this year’s Punjab Assembly elections from Mansa on a Congress ticket and lost to AAP candidate Vijay Singla.
