Pakistani MBBS admission scam in J&K, Charges framed against eight including hurriyat leaders

Srinagar:

National political party leaders in Kashmir Valley have welcomed the framing of charges against eight accused including two Hurriyat leadere in selling MBBS seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and using that money for terrorist activities.

The special NIA court has framed charges against eight accused including two Hurriyat leaders Zaffar Akbar Bhat and Qazi Yasir, in selling MBBS seats and other professional course admissions in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In this connection a case was registered in CIK/SIA wing on Jammu and Kashmir police in the year 2020 against unscrupulous persons who were hand in glove with some educational consultancies for arranging admission of J&K residents in MBBS and other professional courses in various Colleges, Institutions and Universities in Pakistan.

According to UT Government, Huge amount of money was received in lien of such admission from the parents of the students, and the money so earned was ploughed into supporting terrorism in J&K. It is pertinent to mention that recently Govt. of India /MCI issued notifications that professional Degrees such as, MBBS and other technical courses obtained from Pakistan will not be recognized in India.

The Local BJP leaders have welcomed the step. Altaf Thakur, BJP UT Spokesperson told News24 that “The first wrong thing is calling them Hurriyat leaders, these people are terrorists whether Zaffar Akbar Bhat or who are sitting in Pakistan or absconding, they ran a scam. Altaf said they always tried to damage the integrity of our country. They were funding the stone pelters and now framing charges against these people is a welcome step, but this is not enough. Their properties should be seized, and the money they took for these seats should be recovered and how they used the same money in terror activities should be also probed.”

Some National Political leaders also said that finally action is being taken against those involved in big scams. G N Shaheen, UT President Janta Dal United while speaking to News24 said “It was a big mafia and was running from the last 30 years, the government of India never took any serious action against them and for the first time we are seeing some action being taken by the government. The scam of these medical seats was big, and we appreciate the steps taken by the government of India. We are glad action has been taken. We want severe punishment to these people so that no one ever does something like this in future.”

According to the chargesheet, Cogent evidence surfaced during investigation that the money so received was passed on to terrorists, stone pelters and OGW’s for unlawful and terrorist activities. It also surfaced that the admissions in MBBS and other professional courses in Pakistan was in preferentially given to those students who were close family member/relative of killed terrorists on the recommendations of members of Hurriyat and received by their counterparts in Pakistan.

It was on the recommendations of Hurriyat that authorities in Pakistan provided admission in the professional colleges to the next of kins (NOK’s) of killed terrorist as a compensation to boost morale and keep the pot of terror boiling in valley and infuse new spirit into the terror fold.

Top officials told News24 that this racket was running in a systematic manner in Jammu and Kashmir, firstly active agents of the Hurriyat leaders use to identify the potential candidates for the selling of MBBS and other professional seats and afterwards get them in touch with the Hurriyat. After fixing the amount the Hutriyat leaders and other touts from both sides of LOC keep their cut and handover the rest amount of admision fees to terrorists and secessionists for further use in all kinds of anti national activities.

The local Political parties in the Kashmir Valley said that “we don’t want agencies to be misused, Let the law take its own course.”
