Odisha: Priest's son murdered in front of Jagannath Temple

A man was shot dead on Tuesday (May 24) night near the historic Embar Mutt in front of the Puri Jagannath Temple. Later, the deceased was identified as Shivaram Patra, the son of a priest of a temple in the pilgrimage town of Harchandi Talucha Shahi.

According to reports, just 20 meters away from the Singh Dwar (main gate) of Puri Jagannath temple, two miscreants on a bike fired two rounds and Shivram died on the spot.

What did the Puri SP say in this regard?

The ‘Singh Dwar’ police immediately called an ambulance and the injured man was taken to the Puri district headquarters hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Kanwar Vishal Singh reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

“The main accused has been identified as Chandan Barik. He has been detained in connection with the incident. The weapon used in the crime has also been seized,” he said.

According to the SP, prima facie the matter seems to be the result of personal enmity. Forensic investigation is going on. According to the local people, the deceased was murdered due to a love affair.
