Now you may get alcohol home delivered in Delhi, know details here

Alcohol home delivery:

Home delivery of liquor will soon be possible in Delhi, as a group of ministers in the cabinet has given its approval. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and a group of ministers have given their approval to a 17-page cabinet note on home delivery of liquor.

As per reports, the home delivery of liquor will be done through empaneled middlemen, who will collect bottles from retailers and deliver them to homes in different localities.

The empaneled agencies entitled to do home delivery will be required to hold the requisite licenses and permissions.

The GoM has fought for home delivery of only approved liquor, to ensure that people do not drink spurious liquor, which leads to deaths.

In addition, the Excise Department will draft other rules that are in the provisions of the Delhi Excise Act after the cabinet approves the proposal. The rules would include not delivering alcohol to underage persons.

Last year, the Delhi cabinet set up a group of ministers headed by Sisodia to initiate reforms in excise policies. The ministerial group has also recommended that there should be no restriction on the discount rate on liquor.

A Delhi government official told the daily that they will monitor the mechanism of home delivery and issue necessary orders as and when required.

Home delivery of liquor was introduced in West Bengal, Odisha and Maharashtra to create an alternate route to maintain supply amid the closure of shops during the COVID-19 pandemic.
