Mohali blast: 'Babbar Khalsa attacked with support of Pakistan's ISI,' says Punjab DGP; 6 accused arrested

New Delhi:

The Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have arrested six persons in connection with the attack on its intelligence headquarters in Mohali. The Police said that Khalistani operatives backed by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI were behind the terror strike.

Talking to reporters, Punjab DGP VK Bhawra said, “The main conspirator is Lakhbir Singh Landa. Basically a gangster who hails from Tarn Taran. Lakhbir shifted to Canada in 2017 and has links with Pakistan-based Rinda.”

“He is a close aide of Harvinder Singh Rinda, whom we all know is associated with Pakistan ISI. Rinda and Landa, they carried out the attack with the support of Pak ISI,” the senior police officer further said.

The Punjab DGP said that some of the associates of the criminals – Nishan Singh and Charat Singh – have also been identified.

“Nishan Singh and Chadhat Singh have been arrested. Both are residents of Tarn Taran. Nishan Singh made the attackers stay at his house and also at the house of two people in Amritsar.”

The DGP added, “Nishan Singh picked up the rocket launcher from a place in Canada from where Lakhbir Singh was sitting. We have arrested many people in the case.”

Bhavra said that another person who was already behind bars in another case would also be arrested.

He said that two persons were brought from Noida and they are being questioned. “We have not arrested them yet,” said the DGP.

It was told that Babbar Khalsa International and gangsters conspired the attack.

The top cop said, “Baljinder Singh alias Rambo gave AK 47 to these people. These weapons were given to the attackers after being picked up from the whereabouts of Lakhbir. The attackers along with Chadhat Singh conducted a recce of the area and carried out the attack. On 7 May, these people had reached a residential society near Jagdeep Singh in Mohali.”

“Chadhat Singh and two people opened fire. Police and defense bases were their target. Lakhbir Singh Landa was operating from Canada. There was only one message behind this attack.”

On Monday night, the Intelligence Wing Headquarters of Punjab Police in Mohali was attacked with a rocket-propelled grenade, shattering the window panes. However, there were no casualties in the blast.
