Maharashtra: Labour union launches attack on Palghar steel factory, 19 cops suffered injuries; 27 arrested

Palghar (Maharashtra):

A total of 27 demonstrators have been arrested in connection with the stone-pelting incident that took place on Saturday on a steel company premises in Boisar town area of Palghar district. During the incident, as many as 19 policemen were injured while, 12 of their vehicles were vandalized.

“There have been conflicts between labour union and management of Viraj Company,’ informed Palghar police spokesman Sachin Nawadkar. 

More than a hundred members of trade union forced their way to the company’s premises and launched an attack on the employees present there. The demonstrators were angry with the administration as their issue was not being solved for a long time. 

Palghar police spokesman said while 27 people have been arrested, police is on the lookout for many others. 

During the protest by members of labour union over their various demands, yesterday stones were pelted at police on company premises and 19 police personnel were injured. 

Following the tensed atmosphere in Palghar, a heavy security has been deployed on the company premises.
