Litro to distribute 80,000 domestic gas cylinders from tomorrow

Litro Gas Company will distribute nearly 80,000 domestic gas cylinders from Wednesday (11) onwards island-wide on a daily basis as a ship carrying 3,500 MT of domestic LP gas is expected to dock in Colombo today.

“The ship will arrive in the country following the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa,” Litro said.

However, arrangements are underway to distribute 15,000 domestic gas cylinders in Colombo and suburbs within the day today until the shipment is received, the company further said.

Meanwhile, the Litro yesterday said that US$ 7 million was to be paid yesterday to import LP gas and two ships will arrive in Colombo by the weekend.

The shortage of LP Gas caused public unrest in several areas during the weekend where people who were waiting for gas in queues staged protests blocking the roads.

A group of people who were waiting for LP Gas in the Armor Street area for hours since Friday forcibly removed nearly 70 cylinders from a LP gas distribution truck on Sunday evening after realizing that they would not receive enough cylinders.

They had also closed Armour Street from the Panchikawatte area on Saturday during the protest by placing empty gas cylinders across the road.

“The situation was brought under control with the involvement of Police, the area residents had grabbed nearly 70 gas cylinders from the company-owned truck,” it was reported.
