Kerala: Former MLA PC Geogre in police custody for alleged communal remarks against Muslims

Senior Kerala politician and former MLA P C George on Sunday were taken into police custody for allegedly asking non-Muslims to avoid Muslim businesses as they use tea laced with “drops causing impotence”. 

According to PTI, Geogre said that tea laced with “drops causing impotence” were sold in Muslim-run restaurants to turn people “infertile” in a bid to “seize control” of the country. George was addressing a programme in Thiruvananthapuram organised as part of the ongoing Ananthapuri Hindu Maha Sammelan on Friday.  

The former MLA also asked the non-Muslims to boycott the businesses run by the Muslim people. It should be noted that PC George had represented the Poonjar constituency in the state Assembly for 33 years. 

The police informed George was taken to the Fort police station from his residence in Erattupetta in Kottayam district on Sunday morning. A case were registered against the former MLA accusing the later of promoting religious hatred by his remark in the conclave held in the state capital. 

State police chief Anil Kant directed the Fort police station to take suo motu action against the former legislator. 

George has been booked under section 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code.
