Kashmir: Who is Rahul, asked terrorists before shooting Kashmiri Pandit

Budgam:

Protests by Kashmiri Hindus turned violent on Friday over the killing of government employee Rahul Bhat in Budgam, Jammu. Police used tear gas shells, stun grenades and even lathi-charged to disperse the crowd.

On the other hand, the family of Rahul Bhat indicated that he was killed for being a member of a minority community. Demanding justice for Rahul, his family alleged that he was targeted because of his faith.

Rahul Bhat’s father, while talking to the media demanding a probe into his death, raised the question as to how the attack could have happened when the police station was 100 feet away from the place where he was shot. He also alleged that the terrorists asked Rahul who he was and then shot him.

Rahul Bhat’s father told news agency ANI, “First they asked who is Rahul Bhat and then they shot him. We want interrogation. There was a PS 100 feet away. There should be security in the office but there was none. They should check the CCTV footage.”

Rahul Bhat’s wife also raised the question that how the terrorists came to know about him.

“He used to say everyone behaves nicely with him and nobody can harm him. Yet nobody protected him, they (terrorists) must’ve asked someone about him, otherwise, how would they’ve known,” Rahul’s wife said.

Rahul Bhat, a clerk in the Tehsildar’s office in Chadoora area of Jammu’s Budgam, was killed by terrorists inside his office on Thursday. The terrorists shot him after entering the Tehsil office in Chadoora. The Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) noted that he was taken to the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for treatment, but died shortly after.

The last rites of a Kashmiri Pandit were performed in Jammu’s Bantalab on Friday morning. ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner Avani Lavasa attended the last rites of the slain government employee.
