Kashmir: Terrorists conducting target killings new challenge for forces

Pistol toting terrorists conducting hit and run target killings across the Kashmir Valley is an emerging challenge for forces. In the last several months, terrorists have changed their strategy, carrying out target attacks with small weapons and vanishing among the public.

Top police officials told News24 that modus operandi has been changed by terrorists after failing to hit security establishment, they now use pistols to carry-out target killings and mix with the public hide small weapons easily.

IGP Kashmir told News24 that, terrorists have killed 14 civilians this year so far, apart from the target attacks on police men and other security forces. He said small weapon like pistol is easy to carry for terrorists and after carrying out the target attack these terrorists easily mingle with general public which help them escape from the security forces.

IGP said they have studied the changed strategy of terrorists well and have started counter operations against pistol totingterrorists carrying target killings across the Kashmir Valley. IGP Vijay Kumar said forces have recovered 130 pistols so far this year in different raids against terrorists. 

According to sources around one thousand new pistols are available among terrorists operating across the Kashmir Valley, which are being distributed between new terrorist modules including in Srinagar with the task of carrying out hit and run target attacks.
