JVP writes to IGP: Seeks clarification to MP Arundika’s statement in House

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has written to Inspector General C. D. Wickremaratne requesting a clarification on the claims that JVP Members were involved in violent acts recently witnessed in the country.

Writing to the IGP, JVP Propaganda Secretary MP Vijitha Herath has sought an appointment with the IGP to ascertain the truth behind the allegations against the JVP.

“We draw your attention to a statement by SLPP MP Arundika Fernando when JVP Leader MP Anura Dissanayake was speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (18). MP Fernando said that he was informed by the IGP that among the 450 persons, initially arrested in connection with the recent violent acts, were 150 JVP Members. This is a very serious statement which lacks evidence. There has been no proper investigation to find the political background of the arrested persons. We believe that it is a part of the Government’s shameful attempt of blaming the JVP on the recent violent acts.

“If you have made the above statement to MP Fernando, we request you to reveal the categorization of political affiliations of the persons arrested in connection with the violent acts and how those identifications were made,” the JVP wrote the IGP.
