IPL playoffs in danger as storm causes massive destruction in Kolkata

Qualifier-1 of the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals is scheduled to be held at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata on May 24. 

Just before this match, Cyclone Asani and a series of thunderstorms have caused huge destruction in West Bengal. It is being said that many people have been injured, while the stadium has also been damaged.

If reports are to be believed, the lead of the stadium’s press box has been shattered, while some hoardings have also been broken. Sourav Ganguly, Chief of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has visited the Eden Gardens stadium to take stock of the situation.

Here is the playoff schedule

The first qualifier is scheduled to be played between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals on May 24. The third and fourth placed teams in the Eliminator Points table will be played between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 25. Both these matches will be played at the Eden Gardens, an iconic stadium of Kolkata. 

The winning team of the first qualifier will get the ticket to the final, while the losing team along with the winner of the eliminator will play the second qualifier on May 27 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The winner of this match will get an entry in the final, which is to be held on May 29.
