Amidst the increasing cases of monkeypox across the world, ICMR has said that no patient of this disease has been found in India so far. ICMR also assured that India is ready to deal with any situation. According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), cases of monkeypox have increased to 226 in 21 countries.
According to analysts, the situation is worrying as most of these cases are from ‘non-endemic’ countries – where monkeypox has not been detected before. These include EU countries such as USA, UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Austria, Canary Islands, Israel and Switzerland.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Dr Aparna Mukherjee, Scientist C, ICMR said, “India is ready to fight this disease (infection) as it is spreading rapidly in non-endemic countries like Europe, America and others. However, no case has been registered in India so far.”
Health Ministry to announce guidelines for monkeypox soon
The Union Health Ministry will soon issue guidelines related to the management of monkeypox disease. These will include instructions related to isolation, contact tracing, contact monitoring, preventive measures and risk assessment. The guidelines will also include advice for international travelers to avoid close contact with sick people and mammals and contaminated material, including dead or live wild animals such as rodents and non-human primates (monkeys, apes) needed.
ICMR: People should be careful with monkeypox
Health expert, Mukherjee advised those who have travel history from countries where cases of monkeypox have been detected, should act immediately on any unusual symptoms. “We should look for unusual symptoms like high fever, lots of lymphadenopathy, large lymph nodes, body aches, rashes, etc,” Mukherjee said.
Dr Mukherjee said those who detect symptoms should get themselves tested with fluid from wounds or respiratory samples as per the prescribed protocol.
Precautions for people infected with monkeypox
An ICMR official said that people should avoid close contact with people infected with monkeypox, “People should not panic about the disease, as it usually spreads through very close contact. have been published.
