Hyderabad honour killing case: BJP's strong reaction to Owaisi's statement; Know details

New Delhi:

The Bharatiya Janata Party has reacted strongly to the statements made by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on the Hyderabad honor killing incident. Asaduddin Owaisi, while talking to the public, “condemned” the incident and further referred to the “Hindu Muslim” marriage rules.

BJP National General Secretary, Dushyant Kumar Gautam condemned the AIMIM leader’s remarks on the Hyderabad Honor Killing incident and said that people like Owaisi spread communalism in the country. He said that they work to spread riots.

Gautam praised the BJP-led central government and said that the saffron party has done all the work keeping in mind the people of the country, be it Hindu or Muslim.

He said, “BJP has followed the mantra ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’ and has ensured that every plan is made for the development of the people. However, some people try to politicise every element. And try to bring further Hindu-Muslim divide. While the Prime Minister is trying to bring everyone together, people are also supporting him and praising him.”

In his statement, without naming Owaisi, the BJP leader further said that many such leaders have tried to become leaders of the Muslim community in the past, although people have rejected them.

On May 6, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, while addressing a public event, condemned the “honour killing” incident in Telangana’s Saroornagar and called it a “criminal act” as per the Constitution and Islam.

He said, “The woman married voluntarily. Her brother had no right to kill her husband. This is a criminal act according to the Constitution and the worst crime according to Islam.”

The incident took place on May 5, when 25-year-old Nagaraju was thrashed to death allegedly by the relatives of his wife, who were against their inter-religious marriage. People arrived with rods and sharp weapons and attacked him in broad daylight. The couple was traveling on a bike when they were suddenly attacked.

As reported by the Telangana Police, the victim was in a relationship with Syed Ashrin Sultana since his days at Bilapuram Nagaraju College. The couple got married in January this year after which the girl converted to Hinduism and changed her name to Pallavi.
