Gyanvapi Masjid Case: Court orders survey to continue, action will be taken against those who obstruct

Gyanvapi Masjid Case:

The Varanasi court on Thursday ordered that a video survey of the Gyanvapi masjid be conducted again. The court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar said the exercise should be completed before May 17 and a report should be submitted before the said date.

The court dismissed the appeal made by Muslims seeking the removal of court commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra. However, the court appointed two more advocate commissioners – Vishal Singh and Ajay Singh – to ensure smooth conduct of the process. After the hearing, the court has ordered action against those who obstruct the work during the survey.

Gyanvapi Masjid is situated near the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple. It shares a boundary wall with the temple, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.

Significantly, the Muslim side had given a petition in the court to change the Advocate Commissioner. On the other hand, the Hindu side had said that the Advocate Commissioner is doing his work with utmost sincerity. He said that in order to delay the matter, such a petition has been filed on behalf of the Muslim party and a demand has been made to change the Advocate Commissioner.

In fact, the Muslim side was opposing the survey and videography being done in the mosque from the very beginning. During the survey, there was a ruckus outside the Gyanvapi campus. These people were demanding to stop the survey and videography.

Earlier, the Hindu side had told the court that the Advocate Commissioner was not allowed to do videography and survey by the Muslim party on the other side of the barricading i.e. inside the Gyanvapi masjid and in the basement. It has also been said on behalf of the Hindu party that the Muslim party prevented him from going inside the Gyanvapi mosque and inside the basement saying that there is no such order of the court.

Six cases are going on in the High Court regarding the dispute related to Gyanvapi masjid and Kashi Vishwanath Temple. In 4 of these cases, the verdict has already been reserved, while in other cases the verdict will be pronounced after the completion of the hearing.
