Over 140 people who had sold fuel at higher prices in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts have been arrested during the past five days.
They had covertly sold petrol at Rs. 550 per litre to motorcyclists and three-wheelers.
One hundred and ninety police officers have been deployed in the North Western Province to nab such traders.
The offenders are to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court today.
Some 1,800 litres of petrol that was being hoarded too were seized along with the suspects, police said.
