The Divisional Crimes Investigation Division of Gampaha has arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala on May 9, yesterday.
According to the Police media Division the arrested are in the ages of 39 and 44 and are residents of the Nittambuwa Area.
They suspects were to be produced before the Attanagalla Magistrate yesterday.
The Divisional Crimes Investigation Division of Gampaha is conducting investigations into the incident.
Polonnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala was assassinated in the Nittambuwa area by mobs following a tense situation that occurred when the MP was passing the Nittambuwa town on May 9.A group of people had surrounded the vehicle of the MP and had tried to assault him.
However, the MP and his security officer were assaulted and assassinated by the mobs once the MP’s Security Officer opened fire at the mobs and fled the scene. “They were found dead inside a nearby shop,” Police said.
