'Durga pooja prayer for women's power': Amit Shah on his two-day Kolkata visit

Kolkata:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday promoted the message of women empowerment and linked it with the Indian scriptures. He asserted that praying Goddess Durga means to worship women’s power.

The Union Home Minister said, “Women empowerment is written in our scriptures; happiness, prosperity, and divinity reside where women are worshipped… ‘Durga pooja’ is a prayer for women’s power.”

Shah was speeaking at a cultural program in Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Mamata countered Amit Shah’s charge of the TMC government not allowing Durga Puja.

“BJP only gives dialogues. They operate from Home Minister with ED, and CBI and trying to torch Bengal. They only want to do Durga Puja. If we don’t allow Durga Puja then how did UNESCO give the heritage tag to Durga Puja in West Bengal,” added Mamata.

Banerjee also retaliated to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks over implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the state. The CM claimed the BJP will not return to power in 2024 as well as no CAA will be implemented.

This comes after the Home Minister lashed out at the Trinamool Congress for spreading rumours about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. He said the Centre will implement it once the COVID-19 pandemic ends.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also accused Amit Shah of infiltrating Border Security Force (BSF) into politics while he visited the state.

She also appealed the BSF to not fall under Amit Shah’s trap.
