Dr. Padeniya decides not to contest for GMOA President

Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) President Dr.Anuruddha Padeniya yesterday (24) said that the decision not to contest the election was not due to any political issue.

He stated that he was elected unanimously as the President of the Association   for more than ten years and during that time he acted in a pro-people manner against tobacco, alcohol, milk powder, flour, poisonous food and drug mafia.

He said he was on the Working Committee as the former chairman and could decide whether to attend the meetings or not.

He said he resigned as President of the GMOA a year ago and was unable to step down due to a lawsuit and the inability of the Association to hold its Annual General Meeting due to COVID.

He said that he had requested every President to provide non-toxic food to the people and that he was not loyal to the Rajapaksas. He said that if the government had implemented the proposals put forward by the GMOA to create a country free of poisons, not only this government but all previous governments would have been protected and the government would have acted in a manner that would destroy itself and the pro-people programme.

Dr. Padeniya said discussions were held with the politicians representing the GMOA to implement pro-people programmes and that he did not act in favour of any politician to achieve his personal goals or programmes and to obtain privileges.
