Dog-walking controversy: Why were the IAS couple sent to far-flung areas? Know what Anurag Thakur said

New Delhi:

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur on Saturday said that the Centre has taken action against IAS officers Sanjeev Khirwar and Rinku Dugga, who had wrongfully used the Thyagaraj Stadium for walking their dog.

Inaugurating Khashaba Jadhav Sports Complex at Savitribhai Phule Pune University, Thakur said, “Delhi government has done nothing. The Centre intervened and shifted them to distant places. These are athletes who win medals for the country. No one should interfere in things related to them. Not my party, not any other party.”

Without naming the IAS, the Union minister said, ‘What can be more unfortunate and shameful than that the athletes are out but the IAS officers are walking their dogs?”

Referring to the Delhi incident, Thakur said, “Sports grounds should not be idle. There should be one competition after another.”

He said, “I am saying again that these grounds are for the players. If your faculty members want to play on this 27-acre ground, they can come, but please don’t go to the track for your walk.”
