Coronavirus havoc in Odisha's Rayagada, 64 students of same school test Covid-19 positive

The coronavirus pandemic is gradually rearing its ugly head in India once again. Experts fear that if precautions are not taken, a fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic may occur.

In such a situation, a worrying piece of news has been reported in Odisha. According to reports, 64 students have been found coronavirus positive in a school in the Rayagada district of Odisha.

However, according to Saroj Kumar Mishra, District Magistrate, Rayagada, there has been no outbreak of coronavirus in this district in southern Odisha.. According to the report of news agency ANI, medical teams have been deployed in the hostels.

Saroj Kumar Mishra has said that all necessary measures have been adopted and the situation is under control. 

There is no coronavirus outbreak situation yet. However, during random testing, we found that 64 students were coronavirus positive in two hostels. The students have no symptoms of the Covid-19 infection and have been isolated,” he told the media.

A total of 44 students of Rayagada District Headquarters Anvesha Hostel were found to be Covid-19 positive. This hostel houses the students studying in nine different English medium schools of Rayagada. Similarly, virus infection was found in 22 other students of Hatamuniguda hostel in Bismam Cuttack block of Rayagada district.

Dr. Satyanarayana Panigrahi of the state’s Public Health Department, Bhubaneswar, who visited the state to take stock of the situation, said, “The children are doing fine. There all the positive cases are being taken care of and adequate medicine is being provided. All of them are now symptom-free. The situation is completely under control, necessary steps are being taken with the district administration.”

As per reports, 257 inmates of Anvesha Hostel in Kotlaguda had to undergo RT-PCR test by the Rapid Response Team of the Health Department on May 4.

Of them, 44 have tested positive for Covid-19. The District Magistrate immediately after receiving the report directed the hostel authorities to take preventive measures. Anvesha Hostel is run by the Department of Tribal Affairs, Government of Odisha.

Apart from this, Odisha recorded 14 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the tally to 12,88,131. 

The state health department said, “The death toll remained unchanged at 9,126 as there were no fresh deaths due to coronavirus.” 

The state had recorded 14 new infections and zero deaths on Friday.

Odisha now has 103 active coronavirus cases. A total of 12,78,849 people have so far recovered from the disease, including 10 on Friday. The department said that 53 other coronavirus patients have also died due to comorbidities so far.
