Concerned over safety of my family, says judge handling Gyanvapi Masjid case

New Delhi:

Civil judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who had ordered the completion of survey work at the Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex by May 17 and dismissed a plea to replace the court-appointed advocate commissioner to conduct a video survey of the site, has expressed grave security concerns.

In his order, the judge said an atmosphere of fear was being created and he was concerned about the safety of his family. The judge said that by making this civil case an extraordinary case, an atmosphere of fear has been created.

“The fear is so much that my family is always concerned about my safety and I am concerned about their safety,” the judge said, adding that concerns about safety are repeatedly expressed by his wife when he is away from home.

“Yesterday, my mother (in Lucknow) also expressed concern about my safety during our conversation. They came to know from the media that maybe I am also going to the spot as commissioner and my mother asked me not to go to the spot, as it might endanger my security,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, a Varanasi court, while hearing the matter, said that the survey inside the Gyanvapi Masjid, located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple, will continue and the report needs to be submitted by May 17. The court also appointed two advocates to the survey commission.

The court also refused to remove Court Commissioner Ajay Mishra and said that the video inspection of the Gyanvapi Masjid would continue and should be completed by May 17. The court also rejected the objection of opening two closed basements in the mosque premises for the survey.

The court has also directed the district magistrate and the police commissioner to supervise the exercise and register an FIR if anyone opposes the surveyor or tries to create obstruction.
