The power crisis in the country is deepening. Meanwhile, after seven years, the government company Coal India will import coal. Earlier in the year 2015, Coal India had imported coal. At that time the country was facing severe power cuts.
According to the Union Power Ministry, along with government thermal power plants, independent power producers (IPPs) will also be supplied from imported coal.
Plants importing expensive coal will be able to increase electricity prices
The central government has allowed thermal plants to generate electricity by importing coal from abroad to recover the increased cost of power generation through power purchase agreements (PPAs). Explain that the PPA is between the thermal power plant and the DISCOM, the rate of which is already fixed.
But at present, when coal has become very expensive in the international market and import of coal is very important to ensure electricity supply in the country, the central government has taken this step keeping in mind the cost of thermal plants.
India’s first hybrid power plant commissioned
Adani Hybrid Energy, a subsidiary of Adani Green Energy, has commissioned a 390 MW power plant in Jaisalmar, Rajasthan. This is the country’s first wind-solar hybrid power generation plant. Adani Green CEO Viennese Jain said that wind-solar hybrid energy is a core part of our business strategy. Its purpose is to meet India’s growing green energy requirement.
Agreement on the rate of Rs 2.69 per kWh
He said that this plant has entered into power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India at the rate of Rs 2.69 per kWh which is less than the national average power purchase cost.
