Champions League: Carlo Ancelotti becomes most successful manager ever with Madrid’s win

Paris:

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has become the most successful manager in the history of the Champions League after Real Madrid won the UCL cup 14th time.

In a thrilling game on Sunday, Liverpool struggled and eventually failed to get past Madrid’s star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois at State de France. Starting the game with utmost control and domination, the Reds could not maintain the momentum and Vinicius Junior got successful in breaking the deadlock in the 59th minute.

Vinicius’ goal made Madrid 14th-time champions of UCL and Carlo Ancelotti, the most successful manager, having won it now four times.

“I think Liverpool were strong, but if you keep a high defence and give them room to attack behind you, that’s where you struggle, so our defenders did well to close those spaces,” said Ancelotti after the UCL win by Madrid.

The 62-year-old has become the only manager to win 4 UCL cups in the history of the tournament and the only manager to enter UCL final 5 times. Ancelotti has also lifted the trophy as a player twice, in 1989 and 1990, when he played for AC Milan under Arrigo Sacchi.

“I think we managed today’s game well since the key was to avoid giving their front line space,” he added. “Our back four played very well and they never managed to find space in behind. When their press dropped in the second half, we played better with the ball and we won the game.”
