Cardinal calls for rule of law after visit to Vatican

The rule of law should stand even above the President and the Prime Minister, Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said yesterday.

He stated this to the media at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake after arriving in the country following his visit to the Vatican. A delegation led by the Colombo Archbishop left for the Vatican on a special invitation by Pope Francis on April 22.

The Archbishop said Pope Francis made a request from the leaders of this country to do justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday carnage. “Therefore, these leaders should fulfill their responsibilities properly in order to provide relief to the grievances of the affected”, he said.
