Patna:

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday lauded Janata Dal (United) leader Anil Hegde for his dedicated and selfless work as the latter filed nomination for Rajya Sabha by-election. The post fell vacant after the death of serving MP Mahendra Prasad also known as King Mahendra.

“He has been a dedicated party worker and never demanded anything himself. This time everyone from the party expressed that he should be given a chance given his constant dedication to the party,” said JDU chief Nitish Kumar.

“He is an experienced leader, and has closely worked with (ex- Defense Minister) George Fernandes. Everyone in the party is happy to have him as the Rajya Sabha bypoll candidate…” he added.

Earlier on Monday, the JDU chief along with Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh made the announcement of fielding Hegde as the Rajya Sabha polls candidate.

Hegde belongs to Karnataka for several year. He was BJP’s national election officer.

As per media reports, the party was mulling over a couple of other names to set for the by-elections besides of Hegde. KC Tyagi who is the national secretary-general of JDU and Bhola Sharma, brother of the deceased MP and another national secretary-general Asfaque Ahmed Khan were among the names of possible candidates.
