BIG BREAKING: Yasin Malik sentenced to life imprisonment in terror funding case

Separatist leader Yasin Malik has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Patiala House Court in the terror funding case. The court of Special Judge Praveen Singh at Patiala House sentenced convicted separatist leader Yasin Malik to life imprisonment in the terror funding case. While pronouncing the verdict, the judge said that different punishments and fines were imposed in all the offences. However, the maximum punishment is life imprisonment. All the sentences will run concurrently.

During the hearing on May 19, Yasin has confessed to his crime. He admitted that he was involved in terrorist activities in Kashmir. Amid the sentencing of Yasin Malik, security has been tightened in the Kashmir Valley and a drone is monitoring Yasin Malik’s house. Not only this, the security in the court premises was also very tight and before the verdict, surveillance was done via dog squad.

There are many cases registered against Yasin Malik on charges like involvement in terrorist activities, terror funding, terror conspiracy and waging war against India. Yasin Malik is also an accused in many other cases including the kidnapping of four unarmed officers of the Indian Air Force, the daughter of former Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

According to reports, most shops in Maisuma and adjoining areas, including some in Lal Chowk of Kashmir, are closed. Markets in some areas of the old city also remained closed, although general transport remained normal. Heavy security forces have been deployed at many places.

NIA sought death penalty

Earlier, the NIA had demanded death penalty for Yasin Malik, who was convicted in terror funding. The NIA said that considering the type of crimes committed by Yasin Malik, Malik should not be given a sentence less than death. At the same time, Yasin Malik himself had confessed his crime during the hearing of the case. He also said he always surrendered whenever he was asked to do so and he will accept any verdict given by the court.
