19 children and 2 adults dead in Texas mass shooting, shooter killed

New Delhi:

The mass shooting that took place in Uvalde, Texas has registered the death of 19 children and two adults. This raised the number of gun violence incidents to 27 in this year.

The Governor of Texas Greg Abott said that the suspect identified as the shooter was killed by the state police.

This incident comes after the Buffalo shooting incident that took lives of 10 people. America has a history of such incidents which can be tagged as mass shooting. As per the data of The Education Week, an online portal collecting data of school shootings since 2018, around 119 such incidents have been taken place since then.

US registers over 200 mass shootings this year

According to Gun Violence Archive, an independent, data collection organisation that tracks all cases of gun violence in the United States, has recorded 212 mass shootings in this year.

As per the Gun Violence Archives, mass shootings are defined as an incident where four or more people are shot or killed, excluding the shooter.

A video was posted on Facebook from the account of Elsa G Ruiz. The post read, “What my girls just sent me this is at Robb. Prayers for the kids and staff. EDIT: this is not my video, it was sent in a group chat to my daughters, they do not know who is the main person who recorded this video.”

The video allegedly shows Salvador Ramos entering the school. However, we were not individually able to verify this claim regarding the video.

President Joe Biden is posting regularly citing concerns and condolences

US President Joe Biden posted on Facebook that, “These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen anywhere else in the world. Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to stand up to the gun lobby? It is time to turn this pain into action.”

He also informed that he will be visiting Uvalde along with Jill Biden to grieve with the community that lost 21 lives.

President Biden had also written a heartfelt post quoting scriptures in order to show condolence towards the lives that were lost in the Uvalde mass shooting.

US has a history of gun violence and with every new mass shooting incident, the debate regarding the gun laws heat up. It is a great concern for the parents whether the children will come back safe and sound from schools. Following the incident in Uvalde, all the schools in the vicinity have taken severe measures and no one (including parents) are allowed to enter the school premise for the time being.
