West Bengal: Police uses water cannon on BJP leaders protesting over 'politicisation, corruption' of education system

Kolkata:

The West Bengal Police on Tuesday used water cannon on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers who were staging protest against the Mamata Banerjee-led government over ‘politicisation and corruption in our education system’. The demonstration was being led by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president Tejasvi Surya under the banner of Chalo Bikash Bhavan.

“Land of Vivekananda and Rabindranath Tagore, land that had guided the country in education in the context of freedom movement is now sinking as far as education system is concerned. Yuva Morcha is protesting against the politicisation and corruption in our education system,” said Tejasvi Surya.

Surya compared the WB CM with Hitler and said, “This is a dictatorial government. Mamata Banerjee has become Hitler. Our constitutional right is being snatched away. We came to Bikash Bhavan peacefully and organised a protest, it’s our constitutional right. We’re being stripped of our right.”

The BJP leader further termed the state police as ‘TMC ki Police’ and claimed that the police did not help the BJP leaders and workers who were fallen onto the ground during the protest.

Sukanta Majumdar, chief of BJP’s state unit made accusations against West Bengal Chief Minister and said, “Mamata Banerjee has killed democracy in West Bengal. We told Police to arrest/detain us but not resort to lathi-charge. But they did. Male cops attacked our women workers. As per my information, four workers need hospitalisation, one already hospitalised.”
