Telecom company Vodafone has suffered a major setback. Yes, the company had closed the number of a user, on which he had to pay a fine of 50 thousand rupees. This order has been issued by the Gujarat State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. In fact, the user had filed a complaint with the consumer cell stating that the user’s number was being used for telemarketing without registration, for which his number has been disconnected and blacklisted. For this, the company has been ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000.
A user named Nirmal kumar Mistry of Surat received a message from his telecom operator in October 2014, saying that the company had received complaints about telemarketing messages and calls made by the user without registration. Because of this the telecom provider switched off Mistry’s number. Mistry later got a new SIM card from another store, but could not get his old number back.
The user complained against Vodafone regarding this matter. The user had sent a legal notice to the company. In response, the company had said that the user’s number was being used in telemarketing without registration. So the number was closed. Due to this, the user suffered a loss of about Rs 3.5 lakh. The user says that he is a software developer. He does not do any kind of telemarketing work.
However, in the year 2016, the user’s request was rejected. It was also alleged that the user has violated the Consumer Protection Act. The company also took action against the user. But when the verdict was again pronounced, it was in favor of the user, Mistry’s lawyer Milan Dudhiya spoke before the State Commission.
According to the guidelines of TRAI, the consumer complaint was placed under the Provider Consumer Preference Register. It was also said that if the number of the user was not registered in DND, then action could not be taken on Ush. After the hearing, the company paid a fine of Rs 50,000 to the user. In addition, heel is also ordered to pay an interest of 7 percent.
