Uttar Pradesh: Angry with transfer, 2 teachers take girl students hostage at Lakhimpur Kheri school

Lucknow:

Around 24 students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya at Behjam in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh (UP) were allegedly locked up by two teachers on the terrace of the school to pressurize the district authorities to cancel their transfer orders, officials said.

The incident happened on Thursday night. The authorities and the local police managed to get the girls back to their hostel after several hours.

Laxmikant Pandey, Basic Education Officer, Lakhimpur Kheri, told news agency PTI, “The teachers used such tactics to pressurize the district authorities to cancel the transfer order to another Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya on disciplinary grounds.”

Hostel warden Lalit Kumari informed about the incident to Pandey and District Girls Education Coordinator Renu Srivastava. They reached the school and camped there for several hours. Pandey said women employees of the local police were also called and the matter was resolved.

“An FIR has been registered against two teachers Manorama Mishra and Goldie Katiyar under relevant sections of the IPC,” Pandey said.

“A departmental inquiry has also been ordered into the matter. A committee will give its report within three days,” he added.

Pandey said that if found guilty in the investigation, strict action would be taken against the teachers including termination of the service contract.
