Stray Kids' former member Kim Woo Jin to lead HBO Max series

New Delhi:

Kim Woo-jin, a former member of K-pop boy band Stray Kids, will be the first Korean to play a lead role in an HBO Max original series, according to K-media reports. Kim has been cast in the series “Além do Guarda-Roupa” (translated to ‘Beyond the Wardrobe’) set in São Paulo, Brazil. The series follows the story of a teenage girl who finds a teleporting portal in a closet and meets a K-pop idol in Seoul through the portal. He will star opposite Brazilian actor of Korean descent, Sharon Blanche. “Além do Guarda-Roupa” will be released next year via HBO Max.

“He (Kim) has had high popularity overseas since his debut, which helped him be cast in the global project,” the agency said in a release.

Kim is now in Brazil to film the series and will return home around June, as per The Korea Times. HBO Max is planning to launch its service in Korea in the latter half of this year.

Talking about Kim Woo-jin, he debuted in 2018 as a member of Stray Kids and left the band in October of 2019. He debuted as a solo act in July 2021 with his single “Still Dream.” He signed with 10x Entertainment as an attempt to launch a solo career. Amidst his transition to a soloist, he also faced many obstacles. In September 2020, Kim Woojin’s reputation hit rock bottom when an anonymous Twitter user alleged that Woojin had sexually harassed her and touched her without her consent while she had been visiting a bar in South Korea. Last year, his agency went to court to disprove the allegations made against him and filed a complaint with a local police station.
