Squid Game Season 2: Director Hwang Dong Hyuk confirms return of two key characters - know details

Korean drama Squid Game created a wave among pop-culture with its unique storytelling, becoming a cultural juggernaut Not to forget the chills that it brought with every game. With Season 2 on cards, ‘Squid Game’ remains a buzzword among netizens. In a recent update, director Hwang Dong Hyunk confirmed that some of the characters from Season 1 will return for Season 2 as well. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk appeared on ‘Deadline Contenders Television’ held at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, California along with actor Park Hae Soo. Confirming return of Lee Jung Jae, who played the role of Sung Ki Hoon, he hinted that Lee Byung Hun, who played the role of Front Man, will also come back. While Sung Ki Hoon’s return was pretty obvious, this is the first time Front Man’s comeback has been made public.

Dishing out more details about the series, director Hwang Dong Hyuk said, ” “I hope that works like ‘Squid Game’ have opened the door to some degree.” Lastly, Hwang Dong Hyuk said about his next film, ‘Killing Old People Club’, “For this project and future projects, we have to consider political polarization, cultural differences, the current environmental and climate change. I will continue to observe and criticize these themes in the future and incorporate them into my work.”

Park Hae Soo, who was seen as Cho Sang-woo, also talked about his character. “He is a character that can be seen in everyday life,” he said, adding, “I approached the character without thinking of him as a villain from the beginning. Rather, he was a person who was influenced by the situation and environment he was in.”

Earlier, speaking to Variety, director Hwang Dong Hyuk had revealed that he hopes season two will launch on Netflix by the end of 2024. The official release date of Squid Game Season 2 will be announced soon.
