SJB protest march enters Galigamuwa

The protest campaign organized by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) from Kandy to Colombo completed its third day at Galigamuwa yesterday (Wednesday).

A large number especially plantation sector workers gathered at Mawanella town to receive the SJB and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa who led the campaign.

Before proceeding the protest campaign from Mawanella to Galigamuwa on the Kandy Road the SJB leader addressing the gathering said the objective of organizing the protest campaign was to urge the Government to reduce the sky rocketed prices of essential goods such as milk powder, rice, wheat flour, dhal as well as gas, kerosene oil, petrol, diesel and cement since majority people in the country are now leading a miserable life due to the price increase of these items.

Premadasa also said people all over the country are demanding the President and the Prime Minister to step down since both these leaders are incapable to be the leaders in this country any more.

He asked all Parliamentarians to focus attention towards the country’s current deteriorating economic policies and also the political situation and said now the time has come for them to decide whether the country actually needs such incapable leaders.

Premadasa also highlighted about the massive shortage of gas and diesel and said as a result a large number of eating houses, hotels and restaurants countrywide have been closed and the workers also lost their daily earnings.

He also expressed serious concern about the living conditions of majority plantation workers and said Government should at least focused attention towards reducing the price of wheat flour considering the pathetic economy situation of almost all plantation workers who depend on flour based food products.

Premadasa said that as a responsible Government that was elected to power by majority low income families in the country, it should not put further burden on people by increasing prices in an unbelievable way almost every day.

He said the current diesel price has badly affected to all sectors including passenger transport services, vegetable and fish transport services, fisher families, industrialists, manufacturers, factories etc.
