Romania: Man dies after ramming car into Russian embassy in Bucharest

Bucharest (Romania):

Protesting against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has cost a driver in Romania his life. The man, who was apparently angry at Russia for the Ukraine conflict rammed a car into the gate of the Russian embassy in Bucharest early on Wednesday.

CCTV footage showed the car in flames as it remained stuck in the gate. The police, who did not release the identity of the driver, said than an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Meanwhile, Romania has decided to expel 10 employees of the Russian embassy in Bucharest, the Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

“The Foreign Ministry reports that the Romanian authorities have decided to declare 10 people working in Russian embassy in Bucharest personae non-gratae on the Romanian territory, considering that their activities and actions are contrary to the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the ministry said in a statement.

Nearly 624,860 Ukrainians have fled to Romania since Russia invaded their country on February 24, and around 80,000 are still in Romania.
