'Pushpa' star Allu Arjun rejects tobacoo endorsement worth hefty sum; aims to inspire fans

New Delhi:

Pushpa actor Allu Arjun is garnering heaps of praises for rejecting a hefty sum from a tobacoo company for an endorsement. The actor has taken this decision as he does not want his fans to consume the product after being influenced by the ad.

“AA received a hefty sum for a tobacco brand endorsement but he rejected it without a second thought as he personally does not consume it. The actor does not want his fans to watch the ad and start consuming the product, which can lead to addiction,” a source close to the actor told Pinkvilla.

“While smoking in movies is something that’s not in his control, whenever possible he has amplified the message of being against the idea of the consumption,” added the source.

In 2021, Allu Arjun has participated in a campaign against smoking. He had also requested his fans to quit smoking.

In a chat about it, Allu Arjun says, “I wanted to draw people’s attention towards the ill-effects of smoking. We have constructed very incorrect notions of what’s cool and hep. In the 90s primarily, when the youth came under the influence of Westernisation owing to the popularity of music channels and rampant growth in nightclubs and lounges, the culture of smoking grew vastly. It was considered cool to don this bad boy image, and smoking is an intrinsic part of that. Popular culture didn’t do a lot to deter people from indulging in this vice. In 2021 India, despite the lockdown, smoking rates are at an all-time high because there is a direct correlation between smoking and stress. I want to effect a change, no matter how small it is. With the pandemic still looming over us and the third wave in the vicinity, I want to promote a healthy lifestyle and fitness. I actively speak to friends and family and discourage people from smoking. Change starts small and this is my small effort in the right direction.”
