Punjab Clashes: 'They were workers of Shiv Sena, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal,' Punjab CM

New Delhi:

A day after the clash broke out in Punjab’s Patiala, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday claimed that the activists were the workers of the Opposition parties. He further informed about setting up a peace committee to look into the matter. 

Punjab CM said, “There’s peace in Patiala as of now. Shiv Sena, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal were there and they were their workers who clashed with each other. Police officials have been transferred & peace committee meetings are being conducted.”

Violence erupted here on April 28 as the two groups indulged in the conflict during an anti-Khalistan march outside the Kali Mata temple. Following the conflict, the authorities imposed an 11-hour long curfew and suspended mobile internet services temporarily. 

Earlier in the day, the Punjab government transferred as many as three police officers. Transferred IPS office Rakesh Agrawal, “This is a government (transfer) order. We are here in Patiala to maintain law and order.”

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Mukhwinder Singh Chinna has been appointed as new IG Patiala, Deepak Parik has been appointed as new SSP Patiala and Wazir Singh has been appointed as new SP of Patiala.

In the conflict, four four people including two policemen were injured. 

Owing to which, the auhthorities deployed heavy security to control the situation and imposed a curfew that ended at 6 am today.

Earlier today, the home affairs and justice department of the Punjab government issued an order to temporarily suspended mobile internet services from 9:30 am to 6 pm in the city.
