Chandigarh

As many as three accused have been arrested in connection with the violence erupted in Punjab’s Patiala district on Friday. The police further informed the internet connectivity has been restored in the city that was suspended to stop rumour mongering.

SSP Patiala Deepak Parik said, “3 accused arrested. As more video evidence and statements come in, we nominate more accused; their numbers will rise. We have identified around 24 accused by this evening and special teams formed to arrest them.”

“Every accused will be arrested,” he continued.

Meanwhile, the authorities have lifted the curfew in the city and restored the internet connectivity. He said,” Curfew has been lifted, and internet services have been restored. There is confidence among people. Peace Keeping Committee’s meeting was held. Everybody wants peace.”

Earlier in the day, Punjab government transferred three police officials for failing to control the violence on April 29.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the Opposition parties of being involved in the violence by saying, “There’s peace in Patiala as of now. Shiv Sena, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal were there and they were their workers who clashed with each other. Police officials have been transferred & peace committee meetings are being conducted.”

Violence erupted here on April 29 as the two groups indulged in the conflict during an anti-Khalistan march outside the Kali Mata temple. Following the conflict, the authorities had imposed an 11-hour long curfew and suspended mobile internet services temporarily.
